oversaturation of mismanaged plastic waste worldwide. The brand’s bottles are designed in Norway and made in Shanghai, with ocean-bound plastics collected from the Philippines, India, and other coastal regions.

2026 Update: Ocean Bottle has renewed their Sustainable Jungle rating and over the last year, the brand has launched two new products: the GO Clear, their first transparent reusable bottle made with Tritan Renew (50% recycled content), and the Peak range, a trail-ready line engineered for outdoor use with triple insulation, reinforced durability, and modular interchangeable lids. The brand has also hit a major impact milestone, having now funded the collection of over 24 million kg of ocean-bound plastic, up from 16.1 million kg at the time of our original rating.

Ocean Bottle Brand Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

All products are made from minimum 65% recycled materials, including 90% recycled stainless steel (GRS certified) and BPA-free plastic. Product packaging is 100% recycled, plastic-free, and recyclable, with custom-sized boxes and recycled cardboard inserts to reduce shipping impact. The factory reuses and recycles all scrap materials from production. Climate action is taken through SWEEP, an emission management tool, to measure 78% of Scope 3 emissions, and the brand helped convert to in-house solar panels at their factory. Ocean Bottle funds several carbon sink projects, including a seagrass meadow in Kenya’s Vanga Bay and 560 ha of mangrove coastal habitats. The brand has committed to being Climate Pledge Friendly. However, no formal targets or tracking are in place for waste, chemical use, energy efficiency, or biodiversity. The brand is 100% vegan.

Communities & Wellbeing

Ocean Bottle’s workforce receives stock options, annual and family leave, medical insurance, mental health resources, flexible working options, and a pet-friendly office. The brand openly shares supply chain information, with bottles made in Hangzhou, China by Everich, who hold REACH and FDA certifications and are audited against the BSCI standard. A supplier Code of Conduct with Human Rights & Modern Slavery statements is in place. The brand ran a DE&I company survey in 2023 and implemented workshops in response. Not minority or female owned but has women in positions of leadership.

Values & Governance

Ocean Bottle is a relatively small business with 47 employees and B Corp certification. The brand provides comprehensive, transparent, and annual reporting on sustainability initiatives. For every Ocean Bottle sold, they fund the collection of 11.4 kg of ocean-bound plastic (about 1,000 plastic bottles) through partners Plastics For Change, Plastic Bank, and CleanHub. The brand also funds two carbon sink projects and supports an educational initiative in Manila, Philippines. Ocean Bottle’s mission is social and environmental by nature, with the products sold serving as the mechanism to drive impact.

Product Performance

Ocean Bottle products are highly rated. Trustpilot and Amazon reviews are very positive. Customers note quality, durability, and stylish design. SJ testing of the Ocean Bottle Original, OB Lite, and Brew Flask confirms performance, quality, and aesthetics across the range. Products are designed to last for life, with options to buy replacement components and a 10-year repair and replacement warranty.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”

Ocean Bottle scored 68% overall, making it our top-rated brand in the Food & Drink storage category.

👉 Read the full Ocean Bottle rating on Sustainable Jungle

👉 Shop Ocean Bottle (affiliate link)

How Sustainable Is 8000Kicks? nursery rugs and playmats were easier to find. After relocating to California and going on maternity leave, Eli was shocked she couldn’t find anything comparable in the US. She made it her mission to create the perfect children’s playmats with the best quality, safety, and kid-friendly design. The brand’s name “Toki” comes from “matoki,” the Hebrew word for sweetheart, a loving moniker Eli gives her own little ones.

Toki Mats has renewed their Sustainable Jungle rating and remains one of our top-rated brands for kids’ toys and products. Over the last year, the brand has relocated to a more energy-efficient warehouse with LED lighting on motion sensors, improved insulation, and a newer HVAC system. They’ve also expanded their product range to include a wooden playpen and wooden mirror, both independently safety tested to maintain the same rigorous standards applied across all products.

Toki Mats Brand Rating Summary

Nature & Animals

Toki Mats uses GOTS certified organic cotton, GOLS certified organic latex, and OEKO-TEX certified water-based microfiber PU leather, TPU laminate, and bamboo jersey. A small range includes less sustainable materials like viscose, spandex, polyester, and microbeads in beanbags and tents. Chemical use is managed through GOTS, OCS certifications, and BSCI’s top “A” rating for environmental protection. Packaging includes organic cotton drawstring bags and recyclable cardboard (with some poly bags). Factory defect waste is reduced through a partnership with Good Buy Gear, and fabric scraps are repurposed into support pillows and cubes. A community group enables customers to buy and sell preloved products. Some suppliers use renewable solar energy.

Communities & Wellbeing

Toki Mats supports employees with fair compensation, flexible working arrangements, and growth opportunities. Tier 1 suppliers and factories are disclosed on the website and audited by BSCI, SEDEX, AMOFRI, with SA8000 certifications covering human rights and child labor protections. Their China-based factory is WRAP certified. The brand is woman-owned and values inclusivity. Children’s health and safety are prioritized with CPSC safety requirements and certifications from GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX, SGS, TUV, Eco-tech, Intertek, and REACH. Compliance testing reports with chemical breakdowns are publicly available. Nearly all service partners are small businesses.

Values & Governance

With seven full-time employees, Toki Mats is a small business that publicly communicates sustainability efforts through product descriptions and social media updates. No greenwashing claims or destructive marketing have been documented. The brand gives annually to One Tribe to protect rainforest trees and donates a portion of each purchase to various rainforest conservation charities.

Product Performance

Reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Customers praise the mats’ durability, aesthetic appeal, functionality, and high quality. While some note higher pricing, many justify the cost due to excellent durability and design.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”

Toki Mats scored 60% overall, placing it within 10% of the top-rated brand in their category and making it one of our top-rated brands for kids’ toys and products.

👉<a flooring, and other upcycled materials into handcrafted rustic furniture, homewares, and lighting. Founded by Darren Hulsey, the brand works with small workshops across the U.S. to create one-of-a-kind pieces finished with low-VOC, plant-based oils. As a 1% for the Planet member, Sonoma Restorations directs a portion of revenue to environmental nonprofits focused on forest restoration and wildfire recovery.

Sustainable Jungle is reader-supported. Any virgin wood is FSC-certified, and new components like wiring are selected for durability and used minimally. Finishes are mainly natural tung oil and other plant-based oils, with color and texture achieved through natural aging processes like wine or whiskey exposure and controlled charring. The brand partners with One Tree Planted for reforestation and uses mostly recyclable or compostable packaging including biodegradable packing peanuts and shredded cardboard. Wood offcuts are repurposed for smaller items rather than discarded.

Communities & Wellbeing

Operating as a sole proprietorship, Sonoma Restorations works exclusively with independent U.S.-based artisans in small workshops. Materials are sourced domestically as close to each workshop as possible, often from nearby wineries and distilleries. The brand maintains direct relationships with maker partners who adhere to applicable labor and safety standards. Products use natural, low-VOC plant oil finishes, load-bearing components are tested to meet or exceed safety standards, and electrical components are UL- or ETL-certified.

Values & Governance

Sonoma Restorations is a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and has received top scores on the Wood Furniture Scorecard from the National Wildlife Federation and Sustainable Furnishings Council. The brand shares public sustainability statements and engages in ongoing charitable giving through 1% for the Planet membership. There’s no record of greenwashing or misleading claims.

Product Performance

Customer feedback is limited but positive, with reviewers highlighting authentic reclaimed wood character, solid construction, and handcrafted rustic style. All furniture is designed to be repairable with replaceable components and durable hardware, backed by a 5-year limited warranty for indoor products and 1-year for outdoor items.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting” Sonoma Restorations scores 68% overall, earning our highest “Disrupting” rating and placing within the top 10% of brands in the furniture market for non-toxic, natural area rugs. His mission was simple but revolutionary: make comfortable, durable, beautiful, and safe rugs without harming the environment, animals, or people.

Hook & Loom has renewed their Sustainable Jungle rating and remains one of our top-rated rug brands. Despite navigating significant tariff challenges (50% increases), the brand is finalizing a new line of washable wool rugs that will deliver durability, natural stain and flame resistance, and style. small-batch production, and commitment to vegan materials. The brand is run by founder Marisa Hilarides and one assistant seamstress from a home studio.

One year later, Carry Courage has introduced a few new products, including their ICON everyday bags, Cork Coaster sets, and new colors of their best-selling SIDEKICK notebook pouches. They’ve also shifted their approach to supporting Tibetan artisan makers, moving from selling Norboo Tibetan Handicrafts products to providing quarterly financial support through a percentage of their profits.

This Substack is reader-supported. Cork harvesting doesn’t kill trees and promotes carbon sequestration. The brand uses minimal natural, water-based dyes and limited conventional cotton for bag straps. Fabric scraps get used in smaller products or recycled, and unsold items are donated to charity. All products come with free lifetime repairs and are mostly compostable at end-of-life. Packaging uses compostable tissue paper and boxes, plus recycled plastic poly bags. All products are PETA-approved vegan.

Communities & Wellbeing

Carry Courage is female-founded, owned, and operated. Everything is made in the USA by Marisa, her assistant, and occasionally contracted local sewing assistants. Workers receive fair wages based on Portland’s metro area minimum wage, and Marisa provides hands-on training and basic first aid supplies. Hardware is sourced from a woman-owned small business in the USA. Products are safe for consumers thanks to minimally processed materials and GOTS certification.

Values & Governance

Carry Courage is an extra-small business with public statements on sustainability focused mainly on material choices. A share of profits now goes directly to Tibetan artisan makers on a quarterly basis.

Product Performance

Customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive across both the Carry Courage website and Etsy. People consistently praise the design, workmanship, quality, and attention to detail. Most reviews note that products are built to last, thanks to quality materials and craftsmanship. The brand backs this up with free lifetime repairs on all products.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”

Carry Courage scored 60% overall, placing it in the top 10% of brands in the Bags & Accessories category.

👉 Read the full Carry Courage rating on Sustainable Jungle
👉 Shop Carry Courage (affiliate link)

Thanks for reading! authentic commitment to Fair Trade, organic materials, and artisan empowerment. Founder Katie Schmidt’s vision of stylish, well-fitting, and accessible Fair Trade fashion has been a breath of fresh air in an industry that often prioritizes volume over values.

One year later, Passion Lilie remains in our top 10% of brands.

Passion Lilie Brand Rating (2025 Renewal)

We checked in with Katie to see what’s new, and she shared some exciting updates:

2025 Update

Launch of Pre-Loved: Passion Lilie has introduced a resale program allowing customers to send back or drop off gently used garments for resale through the Pre-Loved store. Participants earn up to 75% of the original retail price in gift cards, with bonus credit for in-store drop-offs.

Circularity in Motion: The program not only extends the life of Passion Lilie garments but also reinforces the brand’s commitment to reducing textile waste and fostering a more circular economy.

See our interview with the impressive Katie on our podcast.

TL;DR Rating Summary

Nature & Animals
Passion Lilie uses only GOTS-certified organic cotton and AZO-free dyes. Garments are low-impact to produce (washed by hand, using minimal water, and sewn with little automation to reduce waste). Old fabric scraps are upcycled into new designs, and packaging is largely recyclable and compostable. The brand offsets emissions from shipping and uses 90% solar energy in production.

Communities & Wellbeing
All products are made by small, Fair Trade–certified partners in India who provide safe, fairly paid, and secure work. The brand’s fully traceable supply chain supports long-term relationships and offers advanced training for female tailors. Katie leads with transparency and inclusion, and marketing features diverse models and real makers.

Values & Governance
A proud Fair Trade Federation member, Passion Lilie publishes annual social impact reports and gives back 10% of sales every April to The Green Project. The brand’s messaging is transparent and free of greenwashing, and it actively educates consumers about sustainable fashion.

Product Performance
Passion Lilie’s apparel is loved for its comfort, quality, and timeless style. Customer reviews consistently praise the durability and flattering fit, and our own product testing confirmed the same.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”
Passion Lilie scores 73% overall, remaining in our top 10% of all rated brands for a second consecutive year.

👉 Read the full Passion Lilie rating on Sustainable Jungle

👉 Visit Passion Lilie (affiliate link)

This Substack is reader-supported. and walnut. Each design is handmade in-house, finished with a GREENGUARD Gold–certified, 0% VOC hardwax oil, and built to last a lifetime. They also prioritize plastic-free packaging, minimal production waste, and repairable designs.

Founded by Daniel Marks, the brand was born from a desire to offer locally made, long-lasting alternatives to mass-produced furniture. Though small in scale, Omba’s commitment to transparency, safety, and responsible sourcing has earned it our highest rating, “Disrupting”, placing it among the top-rated furniture brands we’ve reviewed.

TL;DR Rating Summary

Nature & Animals
Omba makes all its furniture by hand from FSC-certified North American hardwoods. The brand uses secure Shopify transactions and ensures all products are non-toxic and safe for the home.

Values & Governance
Omba is an extra-small, family-run business that communicates openly about its sourcing and sustainability practices. Founded in 2009 in Colorado, this Fair Trade and GOTS certified brand has made everyday essentials like tees, underwear, and bedding more accessible, affordable, and ethical.

Over the years, Pact has built a strong reputation for comfort and softness while keeping its carbon footprint in check through SimpliZero carbon neutrality certification.

Note: This rating was conducted entirely on public information.

See The Full Rating

Pact Brand Rating & Review

TL;DR Rating Summary

Nature & Animals
Pact uses GOTS certified organic cotton across most of its range, significantly reducing chemical use and water pollution compared to conventional cotton. Its products are shipped in carbon neutral, FSC certified paper packaging, and the brand supports circularity through its Pact Circle resale program and Give Back Box donation initiative. While Pact’s materials and packaging are strong from an environmental standpoint, there is limited disclosure on biodiversity, waste management, or energy reduction.

Communities & Wellbeing
Most production takes place in Fair Trade Certified factories in India, ensuring safe, ethical, and child labor free conditions. However, Pact does not have a publicly available Supplier Code of Conduct and broader information about worker protections or DE&I policies. Its commitment to safe, non toxic materials through GOTS certification remains a standout strength.

Values & Governance
As a mid sized company, Pact publishes high level sustainability claims but does not yet produce detailed annual sustainability reports or measurable impact data. They give back through various charitable partnerships.

Product Performance
Customer reviews consistently highlight comfort, softness, and fit, which are key hallmarks of Pact’s organic cotton basics. Though a small number of customers raise durability and fabric issues. Sustainable Jungle’s own testing of underwear, camisoles, bedding, towels, and other clothing found the products to be soft, durable, and comfortable, with only minor issues such as one towel fraying along an edge.

Overall Rating: “Changing”

Pact scores 40% overall, placing it within 60% of the leading brand in its category. While its certified materials and carbon neutral operations show strong environmental intent, Pact’s lower transparency and governance scores suggest room for growth as it continues to evolve its sustainability journey.

👉 Read the full rating on Sustainable Jungle

This Substack is reader-supported. Founder Stephanie Devine was willing to let us road-test our new system on her business, and we’ll always be grateful for her trust.

It feels fitting then that one year later, The Very Good Bra remains our highest-rated brand. We’ve known and featured Stephanie for years—she’s been on our podcast, she’s supported our work, and she continues to impress us with her obsessive commitment to circular, low-waste fashion. She’s also just a genuinely lovely person.

The Very Good Bra Brand Rating

We checked in with Stephanie to find out if anything is new ~1 year on and she shared a bit of an update:

2025 Update

Here’s what’s new at TVGB:

New Design for Disassembly: A bra built so components can be taken apart at the end of its life.

Optional Pad: Customers asked, and she delivered. While it’s made of polyester (no natural option has worked yet), the pad is removable and reusable so customers can still compost the bra and keep the pads for re-use.

New Colors: Their Latte shade has become their fastest-selling bra ever.

TL;DR Rating Summary

And here’s the TL;DR summary if you missed their rating the first time around:

Nature & Animals

The Very Good Bra uses botanically circular materials that can be composted at end-of-life. They use no polyester thread, nylon labels, spandex, elastane, or animal products. Dyes are GOTS-certified, packaging is recyclable or compostable, and shipping is carbon neutral. Leftover fabric is turned into sleepwear or donated, and the brand has driven the creation of Australia’s first textile composting standard.

Communities & Wellbeing

Factories in Portugal and Sri Lanka are independently audited and WRAP, SMETA, or BSCI certified. Stephanie has personally visited suppliers, and materials are disclosed for each product. Fulfilment is handled by a social enterprise providing employment for people of all abilities. The brand is female-founded and owned.

Values & Governance

Founder-led and a Certified B Corp, the brand shares progress transparently via social media and blog updates. They have a clear, responsible marketing approach and donate $1 from every sale to one of three charities via I=Change. While formal annual sustainability reporting isn’t produced, there is no evidence of greenwashing or misleading claims.

Product Performance

Customers consistently give 4–5 star reviews, praising comfort, softness, and fit. Replacement straps are available to extend product life, and our own testing confirmed comfort, durability, and safe non-toxic design.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”
The Very Good Bra scores 77% overall and remains our top rated brand across all categories (at the time of writing).

Read the full rating on Sustainable Jungle

Shop The Very Good Bra (affiliate link)

This Substack is reader-supported. Scroll on to see how they did across our four rating elements:

Nature & Animals

Nest uses a high proportion of organic and eco materials like organic cotton, TENCEL™, natural latex, and FSC-certified wood. Polyurethane foam is CertiPUR-US® certified, and packaging often avoids single-use plastic. Their Lifetime Renewal Exchange program extends mattress life, and they offset last-mile deliveries, though formal carbon targets aren’t set yet.

Communities & Wellbeing

Employees receive generous benefits (full healthcare premiums, 401(k) match, even home down payment support). Nest partners with certified suppliers worldwide, ensures living wages, and is female co-owned with a DEI strategy focused on inclusivity. Safe, certified materials protect both workers and customers.

Values & Governance

Nest shares sustainability efforts openly and avoids greenwashing, though they don’t yet publish a formal report. They donate returned mattresses and regularly support community groups, shelters, and disaster relief initiatives.

Product Performance

With 30,000+ five-star reviews, Nest is loved for customizable comfort, eco-conscious materials, and long-lasting quality. They offer a 365-night sleep trial, lifetime limited warranty, and their renewal program. Our own testing confirms excellent performance.

Overall Rating: “Disrupting”
Nest Bedding scores 52% overall, making them our highest-rated brand in the Mattress category at the time of writing

Read the full rating on Sustainable Jungle

Visit Nest Bedding
